Dr. Irene Kazhdan, M.D., Ph.D.

Born and raised in St. Petersburg, Russia, Dr. Irene Kazhdan received her Medical Degree from the Leningrad Medical Institute in 1981. She then obtained a Ph.D. in Hematology from Leningrad’s Institute of Hematology in 1988. Dr. Kazhdan came to the United States in 1991 to continue her research at the University of Pennsylvania and later completed her residency at Pennsylvania Hospital. She moved to San Antonio in 1999 and completed her Fellowship in Medical Oncology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSC) in 2002. Since that time, until December of 2007, she was practicing Medical Oncology, teaching and conducting cancer research at both the UTHSC and the Cancer Therapy and Research Center (CTRC).

Dr. Kazhdan has opened CanThera Cancer Therapy Center in Stone Oak in order to provide high-quality, individualized treatment to cancer patients. Her one-on-one approach with her patients allows her to customize the therapy based on the needs and goals of each patient. Her personal style is direct and honest, and also includes warmth and humor. In her spare time, Dr. Kazhdan enjoys reading, hiking, and relaxing with a good cup of coffee.
